Editing Department Positions

Editor
The job of the Editor is to is to work with our authors to produce the best book they possibly can. Editors are paid 8% net on books sold which they edited. There is an editor's test given. You must pass this test in order to work for us as an editor. Prior editing experience is required for this position. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Copy Editor
This position has been filled.
The job of the Copy Editor is to find typos after all the editing is done. Copy editors are paid in ebooks and a small honorarium of $5 a book for their time. There is a copy editor's test given. You must pass this test in order to work for us as a copy editor. Prior copy editor experience is required for this position. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Proof Reader
The job of the Proof Reader is to make sure the galley proofs of the book have no formatting issues and to spot any typos that the editing process may have missed. Proof readers are paid in ebooks and a small honorarium of $5 a title for their time. There is a proof reader's test given. You must pass this test in order to work for us as a proof reader. Prior proof reading experience is required for this position. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Graphics Art Department Positions

Graphic Artist / Book Layouts
We are seeking someone to work with us to lay out our books. Prospective applicants must know how to use both Word and InDesign and be conversant with how to create a visually pleasing ebook in the following formats: PDF, RTF, TXT and HTML. Knowledge concerning the creation of other ebook formats is a plus. Prior work with a publisher is fine, but we'd prefer the applicant not be working for another publisher while they are working for us. An understanding of the required formatting style for uploading at Smashwords and other vendor sites is a plus. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Graphic Artist / Cover Artist
We are seeking someone to do cover art. Lead time for covers is typically 30 to 90 days in advance of due date. The artist works directly with the author and the Art Director to create an appealing cover. Poser or stock photos are fine, but post-work in Photoshop or a similar program is a must. We want our covers to be unique, not yet another version of photo art that's appeared on books at two or more publishers. Payment is negotiable. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Assistant Webpage Programmer
This position has been filled.
We are seeking a person who knows how to write clean HTML code to help keep our website updated. This position pays a small honorarium for each page coded. You must know how to code HTML for this position. You must be detail oriented and a self starter. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection. 3rd Party Distribution Manager
This position has been filled.
Handles all uploads of Shadowfire Press books to 3rd party vendor sites such as Smashwords, All Romance eBooks and other 3rd party ebook vendor sites. This is a detail oriented job requiring roughly 3-5 hours work each week. Salary commensurate with experience. You must be detail oriented and a self starter. Applicants must have knowledge of internet browsers and be able to follow instructions on upload protocols to various 3rd party vendors. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Promotions Assistant
The Promotions Assistant works directly with the Editor-in-Chief to promote Shadowfire Press books by posting preformatted promotional material to a list of Yahoo groups and other selected venues. This job is for from Five (5) to ten (10) hours per month and is a volunteer/intern position at this time. We do however permit the volunteer to chose up to three of our ebooks a month as payment for their time. Knowledge of email send/receive and use of internet browsers and Yahoo and similar groups is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Review Assistant
This position has been filled.
Assists in promoting Shadowfire Press books by sending books to be reviewed to our approved list of review sites. Also posts preformatted promotional material to a list of Yahoo groups. This job is for from Five (5) to ten (10) hours per month and is a volunteer/intern position at this time. We do however permit the volunteer to chose two to three of our ebooks a month as payment for their time. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.

Anti-pirating Team Associate
Assists in locating illegally uploaded Shadowfire Press ebooks at various file sharing sites. Duties include reporting such files to the Team Manager and possibly sending preformatted take down notices to the file sharing sites when such pirated ebooks are found. The time spent doing this each month is variable and is an unpaid volunteer/intern position at this time. We do however permit the volunteer to chose one to two of our ebooks a month as payment for their time. This job requires familiarity with Google and other search engines to check for illegally uploaded files on file sharing sites. Knowledge of email send/receive is a must as is a reliable internet connection.
